Creating alignment in the business is the critical starting point of any change – this sets the direction and provides a mechanism for adjusting and motivating people as the change journey progresses. It is essential that the people in the organization understand the vision (“the big picture”), the strategy (“what is it we need to do?”), the measures (“how do we know how we are doing?”) and the organization (“how are we set up to achieve it?”). Without these key elements of alignment, the mechanisms for change are left to chance, reducing the likelihood of a sustainable and effective change culture. Too often businesses jump straight to task and wonder why the “actions” are not taking them in the direction they expected.
